Why This Patient Got Banned from CVS?! (Pharmacist Reacts)

Let’s watch this together. From ever filling any prescription medications from CVS ever again. I am a recovering addict. The reason I became an addict was because at 19 years old, a doctor prescribed me a pretty hefty prescription of pain medication that I should have never gotten. And unfortunately, my Crohn’s disease got more and more severe in my 20s and I just couldn’t take the pain anymore and I became more and more addicted to pain medications.

I fill my medications early because life happens. I’m busy. I’m working night shift or I’m sleeping or just just to be prepared for when I run out so I don’t have to run to the pharmacy to grab anything. Most times with narcotics and my insurance specifically, I can fill my medications up to 2 to 3 days early. That’s what my insurance allows.

Well, I always had little arguments with the pharmacy because they tell me they couldn’t do it 3 days ahead. They could do it 2 days ahead. Fine, whatever. Still got my medication. No problem. Now, for the last year and a half, I have been clean off of prescription pain meds. Well, I for the last year and a half have been on a assisted medication to keep me off of those medications.

Banned from CVS You Won’t Believe Why

It basically just helps stop the cravings and stop the withdrawals at the end of the day. Nothing crazy. It doesn’t give you any of those crazy feelings like a narcotic does. But it is considered a narcotic at the end of the day. And that’s where the issue comes into play sometimes when it comes to, you know, when it can be filled, how many days, whatever.

Now, my doctor had called in my prescription a little early, which I already knew because I went to my doctor’s appointment a little early because of my work schedule, which no big deal. I didn’t even call about my medication until like 2 days later because then the 3 days ahead ca mark came and that was on my day off.

So I knew perfect, you know, I got a day off. I’ll go run and get my script, be prepared for when my prescription runs out on the 10th. Keep that in mind. So then I called CVS Pharmacy to get my prescription filled because you know when it’s supposedly due, you have to call and remind them. They don’t even look at their system to see which ones are supposed to be filled that day. You know, whatever.

But it is what it is. I call them and tell them, “Hey, it’s that day where my prescription be can be filled 3 days early.” But I also told them, “If you guys are comfortable filling it 3 days early, like my insurance allows, you can fill it 2 days early. No problem. I’m good for tomorrow.” She does her little thing, her little mapping thing to see when my medication was last picked up, blah blah blah.

And she comes back to me and says, “Your prescription isn’t due till the 11th.” I said, “No, it’s uh due on the 10th, but it can be filled 2 to 3 days early.” She goes, “No, it’s not filled till the 11th, and we’re not filling it until the 11th because your insurance is stopping me from filling it.

This Patient Was Kicked Out of CVS… Here’s What Happened

I’ve been on this medication for the last year and a I haven’t had any issues, but whatever. You know, I said, I’ll deal with it with my insurance. Click, we’re done. I already knew in my head I was going to call my insurance and double check, but I also was going to call another pharmacist later on. So, I talked to that pharmacist probably sometime in the evening that day.

And then the following day, um towards the end of work, I called to let them know like, hey, you know, this is what’s going on. Like, can we talk about filling my script? Then, um I called later on. Um it was a different shift. It was a different guy that had answered the phone, told him the situation about everything. He looks in the computer.

He comes back and he goes, “No, it can’t be filled till the 11th.” So, I tell him like, you know, it’s due on the 10th, but you know, my insurance allows two to three days ahead of time, blah, blah, blah. He said, “Oh, there’s a new policy that we’re not filling any narcotic medications early like whatsoever.

But the other lady had told me it was my insurance. Um, I told him, I don’t know when that policy came to effect, but I’ve been having the same medication build for the last year and a half without issue at least two days ahead. Can we figure something out? Then he starts trying to trip me up. So, he tries to trip me up, and he’s like, “Well, are you out?” I’m like, “No, I never said that I was out.

What Gets You Banned from CVS? (Real Case)

Clearly you’re out cuz you know you’re freaking out about this blah blah blah blah.” For one, I wasn’t freaking out. I had a little attitude because they had an attitude and I had never had issues the last year and a half billing two days ahead of time. So now I’m like, “It’s a shock to me. You’re telling me that it can’t be filled early and it’s being filled a day late.

” So of course I have a little attitude. And I’m like, “Um, no, but something needs to be figured out.” And he’s like, “Well, let me put it to you this way. Basically, if I give it to you two days ahead of time, that means that you’re going to have this certain amount extra.” No, that doesn’t mean that at the end of the day, that means that I’m being proactive picking up my prescriptions a little early because life happens.

I’m busy. I have work, all this stuff going on. And when that old prescription runs out, I don’t have to go running to the pharmacy to try and grab my prescription. I already have it and I can start my new prescription as soon as that one runs out at the end of the day. And I was like, can you explain more about this new rule? And he said, well, basically it means you filled your thing early, too many times.

They allowed you to fill it two days ahead of time like any other prescription known to man, but now they’re punishing you because you filled it early for a little while and then maybe in a little while they’ll let you fill it again. Sounded like a load of BS in my opinion. So, whatever. I hung up the phone.

The Shocking Reason This Patient Was Banned from CVS

I knew at the end of the day I was going to call during the daytime because I knew the pharmacist that I had dealt with when I had issues like this. There’s two specific ones at that pharmacy. They would figure it out. They would settle the situation and fill my script without issue. The next day comes around.

Mind you, I just got off of work at 7:00 a.m. and I had to go back to work at 7:00 p.m. So, I’m trying to rush home and get home and go to bed, but I’m also trying to figure the situation out. Mind you, I didn’t end up going to sleep or at least putting my phone down and not dealing with the situation till about noon. So, I was running on maybe 3 hours of sleep when I went to work. But, I called that person.

We’re talking blah blah blah. Whoever I’m on the phone with has a little bit of broken English. So, she’s like, “Give me a second. I’m going to, you know, pass you to somebody else.” She passes me to another lady. The lady that I spoke to the first time gets on the phone and says, “I talked to you yesterday.

I told you we’re not filling your script, so you can go somewhere else because we’re not filling your scripts anymore here. I’m like, “So, you’re banning me from filling my prescriptions ever?” And she said, “Go somewhere else. I’m not filling your prescriptions.” Okay. All because I wanted clarification on if it was my insurance or a new rule, which I already knew it was my insurance cuz I talked to them.

So, I want to know what was up with this new rule. Yes, I had an, but I never talked out of line to you at all. I just was upset because this was sprung upon me at the last minute. Wow. So, that was a lot to take in. So, if you’re a patient, if you’re ever wondering why it’s taking so long to ever reach anyone at the pharmacy on the phone, it’s because we are having conversations like this with patients who are calling our pharmacy multiple times a day.

Now, I don’t know about these rules when it comes to control substances from CVS cuz I worked at Walgreens and so it would usually just be 2 days before. But the reason whyies have to be so strict when it comes to opioids is because the government is going to sue us and looks at us so intensely. Retail companies like Walgreens and CVS have been sued millions just because of these medications because our government is actually going afterarmacies instead of the providers that may be overprescribing these medications or inappropriately prescribing them because

there are certain people who do need these medications and who do do well on them. But because of how strict the government is and how they’re going to come after us pretty much for filling opioids, this is why we have to do our due diligence when it comes to this. And so I don’t know if because of like a recent lawsuit or anything that that’s why CVS is getting more strict or maybe just the store, but it seems like this patient was filling it, you know, two times early every single time.

A Pharmacist Explains Why This Patient Got Banned

So I’m thinking she should have more than enough though to get her to the 11th. So I will say when a patient’s trying to call and speak to like multiple pharmacists at one pharmacy, that can be looked at as a red flag. So my best piece of advice is that if you are having problems at a pharmacy, I recommend just switching to another pharmacy.

Maybe it’s just me personally, but if I’m arguing with a company or someone like multiple times, I don’t want to support them and give them business. I got banned from ever filling any prescription medications from CVS ever again. I’ve been filling medications at CVS for the last 20 years on and off, but specifically these certain medications for the last 10 years.

As most of you know, I have Crohn’s disease. I’ve had Crohn’s disease for 20 years on January 2nd of 2006. Now, most of you all know that I am a recovering addict. The reason I became an addict was because at 19 years old, a doctor prescribed me a pretty hefty prescription of pain medication that I should have never gotten.

And unfortunately, my Crohn’s disease got more and more severe in my 20s, and I just couldn’t take the pain anymore, and I became more and more addicted to pain medications. I had been filling those certain medications at CVS for a very long time. Now, I’ve had little issues here and there with CVS, but like nothing super crazy until now.

Um, the issues are always about like timing and when I can fill certain medications. Now, I know they’re very, very strict when it comes to narcotic medications on when they can or cannot be filled. And insurance allows you to fill your medications like any other medication known to man. You can get your medications filled a certain amount of days early because, you know, I fill my medications early because life happens.

I’m busy. I’m working night shift or I’m sleeping or just just to be prepared for when I run out so I don’t have to run to the pharmacy to grab anything. Now, for the last year and a half, I have been clean off of prescription pain meds since December 1st, 2023. But I was on those medications for almost 10 years.

And that is a very long time to be on pain medication and be addicted to. And I was taking far too many towards the end. So I for the last year and a half have been on a assisted medication to keep me off of those medications. It basically just helps stop the cravings and stop the withdrawals at the end of the day.

You Won’t Believe What This Patient Did at CVS

Nothing crazy. It doesn’t give you any of those crazy feelings like a narcotic does. But it is considered a narcotic at the end of the day. And that’s when some of this comes in. The other lady already had an attitude, but this is when it gets pretty crazy. Um, I called later on. Um, it was a different shift. It was a different guy that had answered the phone, told him the situation about everything. He looks in the computer, he comes back and he goes, “No, it can’t be filled till the 11th.

Can we figure something out?” Then he starts trying to trip me up because at the end of the day, no matter how much you prove yourself, what medications you’re on to get off of things, how much better you’re doing in life, if you’re on narcotics in any way, they will treat you like an addict. They will treat you like dirt, doesn’t matter. They treat you like crap.

It’s basically like a punishment. They allowed you to fill it two days ahead of time like any other prescription known to man, but now they’re punishing you because you filled it early for a little while and then maybe in a little while they’ll let you fill it again.
