My passion is training the future physician. I have become really focused on communities of need. Rural-facing regions really need great doctors for the future. They also need great leaders to actually improve health care and improve health systems. And that is exactly what we are going to do here at Valley Health.
There is a physician shortage throughout the United States, and specifically in rural areas. Even though we are a fairly sizable town, our service area is quite rural. We want to create a pipeline of physicians to serve our community in the future.

One of the strong things about this residency program is the patient population. We are a tertiary care referral hospital, but we are also a community medical centre. Instead of only seeing the bizarre cases that are shipped in from outside, we also get to see plain old everyday primary care medicine.

I have worked as a primary care intern in a small town. I have worked as an intern at a university hospital, and I have done international third-world medical work. I think I bring a broad exposure to internal medicine. There are a lot of people in Valley Health who have this kind of broad exposure in their careers who are really going to be fantastic instructors.
Winchester, in general, is a good place to be. We are seeing a wide variety of illnesses. I think that it is unique for somewhere that is also in a more rural area. We are not associated with a big city, but at the same time, if you wanted to go to DC and see a Broadway musical or something like that, that is only an hour and a half away. It is very accessible to big city life, but at the same time, we have a lot here to offer, and it is a nice place to live.
